WHOA…rain, rain and more rain!!

The storm came fast and furious yesterday…and the water fowl were caught unawares.  Two of the baby Moorhen chicks were separated from the family and one managed to make it to a piece of land between two of the ponds, but the other disappeared as the torrential rain pounded.  When everything was over, only 3 chicks of the 4 remained to be seen.  I’m still hopeful that, one of these days, I’ll look out and see all 4 again…

What was really interesting about the one which made it to the wet “dry” land, there were two ducks nearby…figured one of them might come to the rescue of the baby…instead, as the baby hopped towards them, they would back away.  After the fiercest of the rain subsided, one of the older siblings came and covered the baby until the rain stopped.  Eventually Mom or Dad arrived on the scene, along with 2 of the chicks, and took over the protection of the lone chick.

The bigger gator, not the biggest, also made an appearance after the storm…he/she came in from the bigger pond past the retention ponds…

Today, Saturday, Aug 22…the calm before the next storm…these gators sunning on the culvert…

Too many photos for this post…unable to add any more…but that’s ok…the rains stopped and everyone went back to what they were doing…still no sign of the missing chick…as a matter of fact, haven’t seen any of the chicks today…
